Amalfi is the place that gives name
to a splendid road, a 59 km long
ribbon that goes from Meta di
Sorrento to Vietri sul Mare. The
first jewel is Positano with its
narrow streets submerged under
thousands of linen and cotton
clothes that they sell in colorful
little shops. Then Conca dei Marini
with its ceramic stores above the
Emerald Grotto, with its fabolous
color and stalagtites and
stalagmites and an underwater
Crib.Of course afterwards is Amalfi
, where the 13th century Cathedral
stands out, with the majestic
staircase of 62 steps, the bell
tower, the museum , the cript and
the statue of S. Andrew, which , on
the 27 of june is taken on a
procession out at sea.
But perhaps the diamond is Ravello.
Located 350 mt above the sea level,
is a special place all built in the
norman/sicilian style. Villa Rufolo,
where Wagner found inspiration for
the "Garden of Klingsor, II act of
the Parsifal, and Villa Cimbrone,
area in this world but yet not of
it. Words cannot describe the views
and the feeling when you sit on
those terraces. The romanesque
cathedral of S. Pantaleone and its
mosaics are the icing on the cake. |
