The roman name for Sorrento was SURRENTUM, but before that it was
the mythical land of the Syrens and the first settlement was even
pre-greek: it was Oscan.
They were native people belonging to the so called ITALIC,
obviously the ancestors of the Italians.
Today Sorrento is a perfect place to base your holiday in the area,
for its breathtaking views, its extremely high stand and the hotels
and accommodation in general. The historical centre is still the
Greek Roman one where, narrow little streets are crossing at 90°
angle into each other, bubbling with restaurants, shops of which its
